There are countless companies in the computer industry but there is only one battle that counts... AMD vs Intel Now I should say that I'm a hardware enthusiast at heart, so for me CPU performance
matters the most. I stick with gear only as long as it keeps my PC at the front of the performance curve. After that, I drop it like a rock and move onto greener pastures, regardless if it's the same brand or not. After all, what's the point of brand loyalty? AMD and Intel don't love you back, no matter how much you might sing their praises. Put another way, it's not like AMD only sells to you, or Intel has a smiling shot of your mug on every pay stub as a testament to your past processor purchases now is it?

The nice thing about being computer enthusiast is that right now both AMD and Intel platforms support a lot of cross compatible hardware. Sure the CPU and motherboards are platform specific, but you can share DDR2 memory, videocards and other peripherals easily enough. If PC speed is what you crave, you can jump from one processor platform to the next ever couple months, taking your memory, videocards, hard drives and everything else along with you. so I think intel is better for you.

You have to remember when comparing the 2 is that Intel is a far bigger company with billions of more money and millions of more workers. So if AMD is in the discussion with speed on their processing chips with INTC than that is good for them since their R&D spending is nothing compared to Intel. And as an investing standpoint, I am long AMD because I think they will be swalloped up during tech consolidation this year by IBM, HP, AAPL or another big name tech all in an effort to keep Intel honest for the years ahead.

    Long AMD in Individual Account

    Long INTC in Roth IRA

    Intel is a monopolist
AMD is a secondary competive monopolist

of two evils choose the less

    AMD - the right way

and with Intel and Microsoft - have to fight, it's evil

Buying a new CPU for a computer can be just one part of upgrading an old system or trying to build a totally new computing machine. Although CPU plays very big roles and affects systems functionality always, but other segments including RAM, power and even the graphics card or the same VGA too would be playing crucial roles, shaping some good structures always.

Today's modern CPU items as you know are consisted of several cores which can help doing more in less time, enjoying sophisticated games while maintaining a computer which can handle data transmitting smoothly. Both AMD and Intel CPUs have the multiple-core technologies these days and there is actually not a lot of differences when it comes to buying a new PC.

I'm using an Intel processor and it's working better than my AMD processor (from my ol' computer) for gaming and work, :P
Anyway, this one is more powerful so I'm not really making a valid point.. (more cores, etc)

I use AMD, but I might be switching to GeForce and Intel. AMD, recently (especially with video cards) are dropping off the performance chart a little bit. AMD used to be amazing when they came out originally (AMD 4000+ and such) but they're definitely playing second fiddle to Intel.
